I've said this for years. MA was the political head of the most reactionary absolutist faction in France and supported an even more tyrannical government than the sun king's, to the extent her own husband's party had to disavow them.
They were a bunch of violent thugs who triggered the September massacres by crashing a party of constitutional monarchists and republicans.
To ignore this is sexism. She wasn't some clueless shrinking violet she was a Habsburg, trained from birth to rule, did so competently (well, more so than her husband), but played the game of thrones and lost.

I have absolutely no sympathy for royal families getting liquidated for the very simple reason that every royal dynasty ascended the throne through the overthrow and liquidation of the previous royal dynasty and understands that when their time comes, they deserve nothing less than liquidation. The Jacobins and Bolsheviks did not do what another rival feudal family wouldn't have done in their place.
Your royal family got overthrown by a usurper, so now it's time for the previous royal bloodline (eg your extended family) to be exterminated. Don't like it, then gouge out your eyes, mutilate your genitals, and join a monastery. Antoinette could've abdicated and joined a convent as a nun. As a woman, she didn't have to gouge out her eyes nor mutilate her genitals before taking her vows of stfu, but she didn't, so them's the breaks.
