A comm for Lord Of The Rings Memes!

Rules:

  1. Follow the ToS of Piefed.social

  2. Don't be too rough with each other! We're here to appreciate, and sometimes lightly rib, Tolkien's fantastic creation, and all of its derivative works. Arguments happen, but remember, in the words of Tolkien, that food and cheer and good song are what make a merrier world!

  3. AI content will be removed at moderator discretion. We ultimately want to keep AI content in this comm to a minimum, so while unknowingly sharing an AI meme might not always merit a removal, things like AI videos and the like will generally be removed.

Said the system that has 0°C = dead and 100°C = dead

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Now, I know I'm one of them there mountainfolk with hardy constitutions, but I'm pretty sure I've experienced 0C at least once or twice in my lifetime and survived

For a short time, perhaps. But the water is an expansionally freezy boi

I mean, if we're going that route, both 0F and 100F are also unsurvivable over a long period of time.

100F is super survivable - not pleasant, but there are plenty of inhabited places where that's the normal temp for most of the year.

Depends heavily on the humidity. Even 90F is lethal at high humidity. Your body just can't cool itself down fast enough.

That's adding a degree of complexity to the statement which wasn't there, but like yeah. Wet bulb vs. dry bulb and all that.

The fuck kinda fallout-ghoul-looking mfer are you that 0° is lethal?

[–] colderr@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

0° is a decent spring day here in Estonia. I assume if someone came from the Sun or something, then yeah, it would be pretty lethal.

0 = one of the most important chemicals to life is frozen
100 = one of the most important chemicals to life is gas

You're thinking very American, so self centric. Life isn't only about humans.
