A WWI biplane with automatic shotguns might be good for taking down Shaheds

I'm sure they got some Saiga 12's sitting around somewhere. Just need a string to pull the triggers and you're set.

Jokes on you, I've heard something along the lines from soviet era officers multiple times.

Last one was: we need analog FPV bomber escorts armed with sawed off shotguns as an escort for the Vampire heavy bomber, they'll shoot enemy kamikaze drones while Vampire makes logistics delivery.

My mental response was: "what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard"

Good thing that officers can be somewhat stopped by sergeant corps it really would've been 3 day war if not.

By law, weird weapons on a small aircraft using strings on the trigger have to be mounted on a Piper Cub.

It would be hard to reach interception. A modern biplane is slightly faster than a shahed, but closing the distance between detection and take off could take longer than the remaining shahed mission. WW2 prop planes would probably be effective in otherwise controlled air space. Might be time to dust off the Yakovlev plans, and maybe check the local air museums.
