I remember they’ve used that word before. Is it a pun on something other than just “panic”? Is it like republican - repanican or something? I wouldn’t be surprised if it really is just as dumb as it sounds, but I feel like maybe I’m missing something

It's panic + republican. Trump 'coined' it last year during the tariffs.

I think it is supposed to be a portmanteau of "Panic" and "American" but it doesn't fit together at all.

They've used it sporadically since last year. I think the first instance was when the ICE raids started getting media coverage.
