I feel like you missed the bit about “he’s done some shit in the past but he looks and sounds like he’s trying to make amends and move beyond his mistakes”. He’s not trying to hide his past - he’s addressed it head on.

I encourage you to read the article.

I’m not being an apologist here - I’m pointing out that purity testing someone who’s trying to atone for a negative past is counterproductive, particularly in this context.
