Meanwhile, dozens were injured by Iranian strikes in Israel, as Tehran targeted a nuclear site.

Donald Trump threatened Iran in a Truth Social post Saturday evening, warning that the U.S. would target the nation’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed.

“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!” Trump wrote in the post.

Approximately 20% of the world’s oil passes through the the Strait of Hormuz, a critical trade route. Iranian attacks on ships in the area have seen the area essentially close to maritime traffic, while oil prices have soared globally.

Thanks for ruining the world, Americans. Holding you all responsible for this.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 20 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

As a Native American who doesn’t even have a voting member of congress please go fuck yourself. White people are doing this and white people didn’t come from America.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Wait, Indigenous people in the US cant vote for a senator?

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

Neither do Puerto Ricans, Guamanians, American Samoans, or Virgin Islanders. Congressional representation is a bad joke, and the house hasn't expanded seats since 1910 which greatly privileges representation for smaller population states. Gerrymandering is just a splash in the pot compared to how rigged they have the legislature.

The Reapportionment Act of 1929 was a bullet to the head for representational democracy in the United States. It just took nearly a hundred years for us to realize how fatal the wound was.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 21 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

We were promised our own representatives that we still don’t have. As you may be able to imagine, the white people who are elected state wide don’t always have the best interests of Native peoples in mind.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 13 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah Im Canadian and Indigenous rights are not respected here either but fuck, at least they can vote.

[–] rljkeimig@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

Native Americans can vote in state and national elections and are supposed to be represented in Congress by the senators and representative of the state they live in, but they are not represented directly by a native with equal standing and their land and rights are usually not a priority for their legislators or states they live in.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Natives can vote in the US. The republicans have tried to make it harder because they vote against them.

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Don't forget that ICE is kidnapping and trying to deport Native Americans.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

The mask is off, they aren't pretending. We shouldn't either. We need to respond.

The natives are especially valuable for environmental issues, as their treaties dicatate rights, and they are on the right side of all such issues. But the fed courts are going to hell so that is ending.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

No shit, in case you haven't noticed, the "white" people elected don't have the best interests of white people in mind either. You are barking up the wrong tree, this is a class war, and we are losing.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Hard to win if you don't do anything other than SLAMMING them.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

Whatcha mean? This makes no sense to me. Or I suspect to anyone with sense unless I misunderstand your seeming point.

Tomorrow you wake up American. You are the same person, nobody asked your permission, you had no say in the matter, but you are within the borders of America, are a citizen, and have no other citizenship. In fact, because you are American, no country will take you, and even if they would, it would take years up emigrate.

What do you do?

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 13 points 18 hours ago (10 children)

More than Americans have, presumably. All this US apologia is fucking hilarious, you guys elected a pedophile. Fuck off with this "not all americans" bullshit. Do something about it, or youre a pedo protector, simple as. If you dont like the entire world hating you, dont commit evil shit as a country.

To be clear, i am American. We all deserve every bit of hate the world can muster.

[–] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I'm confused, are you American or not?

It seems like you wrote most of the comment being not an American (emphasis added):

More than Americans have, presumably. All this US apologia is fucking hilarious, you guys elected a pedophile.

...then you said you were an American.

It's fine if you're not an American. But just engage in good faith please.

[–] spitfire@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

And the Israelis too. Don’t be so harsh on yourself taking all the blame ;)

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like people should be able to muster up extra hate for each country that needs it. Hopefully your hatred for one doesnt reduce your hatred for the other.

[–] spitfire@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Don’t worry, except for US&A, Russia and Israel (which get some extra hate) I hate everyone else just the same;)

The options are run or fight.

And your scenario seems to eliminate run as an available option.

oh, are you from someplace free of zionist influence? Wheres that?

edit: oh I see from your comment history that you're from the UK. Your government is as big of a joke as the US is. Isnt your arcraft carrier over there doing Americas/Israels bidding right now? Glass houses, friend.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 7 points 21 hours ago (5 children)

But Democrats equally bad or something.

[–] biscuit 25 points 21 hours ago (9 children)

Maybe not equally but they will need to take a good chunk of responsibility for this.

Americans saw his first term, his attempts to bomb Iran were thwarted back then.

Americans watched as he tried to steal the 2020 election.

Americans and democrats had 4 years to punish him for this.

What did Americans do? They gave him an even bigger mandate in 2024.

Assuming the 2024 election was valid, this is an American-wide problem. You've all got to own this and you've all got to be the ones to do something about it.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Unfortunately it is now a world-wide problem. What are you going to do about it?
