I remember back when Hasan did trucrime reactions, there was a guy who proudly wore a hat like that and you'll never guess what landed him in prison (it wasn't for killing a pedo, despite him having a chance to).

Because their desire for vigilante bloodlust isn't about pedophiles. They just want to kill queer people.
In some cases (and I do mean only some) I think it's not about them thinking gay = pedo, but that they love to fantasize about doing violence, so they're optimizing for a fantasy where they wouldn't need to worry about ever facing guilt or condemnation, and in fact can share this fantasy with some people in their own lives and be met with a "hell yeah, brother!" America especially is readily observable to be overflowing with people who for various reasons just desperately want to kill someone, as exemplified by some of the suburban gun enthusiasts who shoot people at the drop of a hat, and this is often a species of that.
