MODERATORS

A bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security failed to advance on Friday in the Senate amid growing concerns about long lines to get through screening at some of the country’s biggest airports.

Democrats declined to provide the support needed to move the funding measure toward final passage. Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, said he would offer an alternative measure on Saturday to fund just the Transportation Security Administration, which screens passengers and luggage for hazardous items. That too is likely to fail as lawmakers hold a rare weekend session.

Behind the scenes, work toward resolving the standoff intensified Fon riday [this wouldn't have happened with a competent editor] as White House border czar Tom Homan met for the second consecutive day with a bipartisan group of senators. Democrats are demanding changes to immigration enforcement practices by federal agents following the shooting deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis.

What makes you think this isn't by design?

I mean, its surprising they've given up their power.

They haven't, they just like to feign opposition when useful for election purposes without actually structurally ceding any power.

They don't care if there are a million Democrat protesters killed or middle eastern children bombed, but they can't say that. But if they act like they just can't do anything about it, their voters will accept that, because they're a mix of unquestioning single-issue "Christians" and MAGAts who are equally okay with (Republican) state violence.

Oh sure they might feel like they still have the power, but they've literally let Trump usurp the power of the purse and war declarations - constitution be damned.
