What does he think NATO is? Isn’t the treaty to protect against aggression, not be the aggressors?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 hour ago

He must have believed the russian propaganda about them being imperialist aggressors or something...

[–] h3ron@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago

NATO is not just bureaucracy, it's an alliance. You CAN ask allies for help, but you are supposed to treat them as such.

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

He's spent more than the last decade doing nothing but criticizing NATO and saying it should be abolished and is shocked when they won't cover his war crimes and the consequences there of? Stable genius everybody.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 72 points 1 day ago (4 children)

He believes he is the king of the world and NATO is a human resources investment similar to the many departments of Trump Kingdom LLC.

Far as he's concerned, who cares if that's not their job or intention. He's paying the bills damn it - he pay the bill, plebs do what he says. It's really that simple.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

he pay the bill

Narrator: Trump never pays his bills

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

A human resources investment which he has cut the funding for

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Trump paid a bill? Nah, that doesn't sound right.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

How long before he explicitly demands to speak to the manager of NATO. I guess in some ways he already has.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I mean, some NATO nations have been known to join the US in a dumb fight. But Trump has also directly tariffed and threatened many of the nations that would normally help the US. Friends are gonna be short supply.

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Americans can't afford to buy stuff now anyway, it's not like they were going to get a lot of trade. We can barely afford our rent/groceries and hundreds are getting laid off every week.

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Spit your allies/friends in the face and see what you get ....

I wouldn't be surprised if trump is looking to use this for an eventual "out" ... throw a tantrum that he's not getting help so he'll pull out of the gulf region completely, only do the bombings but leave the strait and it's cargo issues as the unresolved mess they are.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hm, many NATO countries actually did the latter for the US in the past.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The US was actually attacked at that time. Iraq was a different story and "coalition of the willing" was used.

[–] tarball@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

NATO's Article 5 was invoked only once, by the US. Trump had the audacity to insult (former?) allies and deny that ever happened.

I think it's great no one wants to join his unsanctioned war.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

NATO's Article 5 was invoked only once, by the US.

Certifiably untrue.

[–] atropa@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Psst ,9 11 was a false flag operation and with inside help from  ......

[–] Mihies@programming.dev -1 points 1 day ago

Sorry, wat? Attacked by who? Saudis? The official reason for the yet another illegal war was that Saddam was amassing WMDs - do you see any familiar made up cause here?

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Surely NATO could make an exception here and come to the aid of a non-member who’s the victim of aggression.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah well Trump IS a fucking idiot.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

these psychopaths believe ripping babies apart is self defense. they have no souls or humanity.
