Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

As a European, all these American news read like you‘re very close to a civil war over there
When I'm at an airport bar, any and all interactions with chuds from red states definitely feels like it. They've been conditioned to hate blue cities/ states. A simple where you flying to/ from turns into a whole rant about San Francisco and how it used to be great, but it's been ruined by wokeness or whatever 9 times out of 10. It's fucking unbearable. I try not to talk to those chodes because they literally can't function without repeating some bullshit they heard on Fox News. They straight up live in an alternate reality.
We're being actively goaded in that direction by bad-faith actors all over social media, including here. Those of us with brains are keeping our powder dry since it's obvious that these trolls can't speak for all the steps that sit between conflict and resolution. Said trolls also don't understand that the majority of gun owners are trained and know better. It's not like you can buy bullets at 7-11, and having so many firearms around doesn't automatically make this a volatile situation, hence the constant pushing you see online.
What I can say is that the political divides you're seeing online are showing up in the real world, where people aren't able to overcome propaganda and programming. In my experience, people generally stay off the topic of politics in public because they want to have a good day. Occasionally you spot someone wearing trump stuff, but I take that in stride along with people wearing offensive t-shirts and the like: it's just trolling, plain and simple.
Overall, it's not great.
I am sick of foreigners prodding us to revolt, simply for their sick entertainment, as if a Civil War in America wouldn't make life miserable in every other country in the world. We still a have the Constitution and a few legal strategies left, including the Midterms, and the 2028 Presidential Election.
What happens in the future depends primarily on the outcomes of those elections, and if MAGA defies the results of those elections, then we'll start to moving toward revolt.
But right now, it is far too early. We still have legal, Constitutional steps to take first.
I don't know. I think the Constitution only matters if Trump and mega don't control all three branches of the government.
After all, weren't the search and seizure is everywhere. Disregarding habeas corpus. Disobeying court orders to release detainees. Bullying allies and doing his best to undermine NATO.
Now he wants the federal government to have control over National elections, and it seems pretty clear that if the Republicans look like they're going to lose control of the house or senate, elections will be suspended completely.
Every time Trump crosses a red line, people, Democrats especially, just draw a new red line.
He can't suspend elections, they are managed by the states. He has no say over it. And with over 400 Congressional races, he can't rig that many local elections. So they are coming up with pre-, during, and post-election cheating strategies.
Before the election, they are trying to get their hands on the state voting infrastructure, for some reason. They raided the Georgia election offices, but I'm not sure what they can accomplish with it. They have some sort of plan, because they are also trying to get their hands on the same materials from other states as well. They may have a plan, but they are virtuosically incompetent, so there is about a 70% chance that it will fail miserably.
Another pre-election strategy is to purge the voter rolls on advance. This was first used by Jeb Bush before the 2000 election, and was very effective in suppressing Democratic votes, so it has become SOP for the GOP ever since. All voters, but especially those in Red states, should know when their registration period ends, and make sure they are still registered to vote before the deadline. They are also trying to ban mail in ballots, which is really stupid, since mail-ins tend to favor the Right.
Also closing polling places in busy areas, while having lots of polling places in rural areas, and restricting early voting.
For the During Election strategies, we've been hearing of plans to send ICE to the polls, where they have no jurisdiction or duties (there won't be any illegals at the polls, they can't vote), to intimidate people.
Post-election, we can expect them to try to raid certain state election offices before the count is finished, in order to confiscate the voting materials, and do their OWN vote count. They can't be allowed to do that under ANY circumstances. Governors have to be prepared to send the National Guard, and the State Patrol to guard their Election Offices, and if any MAGAs show up to steal the ballots, and they DON'T have a signed warrant...SHOOT THEM, like they should have done to the DOGE Goons when they tries to get past the lobbies in those Federal agencies. If they claim there is a "DoJ Policy" that legally allows it, that's a lie, and not how the law works, so if they try to push beyond that without a warrant, they are trespassing on State property, it should be considered terrorism, and they should be dealt with decisively.
I thought most people buy bullets at Walmart but hey
Oh please let them finish what was left to fester
I loved the idea of Canada joining our glorious EU as well. Imagine working there for a bit and laughing at the border at yanks that get sent back or something... Cathartic. Plus Canadian bud.
Let Texas succeed. Something.
This syndicated comic strip ran in a bunch of main line newspapers yesterday. You have to understand it's pretty wild for these big, mainstream comic strips to dip into politics if that's not what they usually do. When Doonesbury went "too far", he got moved to the opinion page in a bunch of papers.
I’ve seen some of Doonesbury‘s comics on the Internet. They, just like this comic strip, feel less like satire and more like a hyperbole. In Austria, we ususally overexaggerate everything. Like we have a satirical book about a former major of Vienna, called "get me the sparkling wine"
‘There's gonna be a civil war in this country’
America helped save you guys from Hitler. How about returning the favor?
And by that you mean America allowed it's companies to secretly aid Hitler until Japan touched Americas boats and Hitler declared war on America?
That's fine, if Rheinmetall wants to raise their stock price, they can come save the American public all they want.
