Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

They should be pointing that shit at red states realistically

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 27 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

The media agitation is aimed at blue states, because blue states have the highest population of anti-war people.

We're not going to get a story about Texas being targeted by Iran, because Texans are largely on board with the war. We're going to get an endless earful about California and New York and Minnesota, because it gives reactionary media an opportunity to scream "Why are you rooting for Radical Islamic Jihadists?! THEY WANT TO KILL YOU!!"

Also, provides another great excuse for Trump when he decides to send in ICE to rough up brown people in SF or LA.

[–] Kalon@feddit.online 8 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

I think support for the war in Texas and similar red states is weaker than you'd think, but with enough dumb F**ks who would be brought back in line with a false flag attack.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I think you might be onto something. All of my dumbfuck fellow Texans aren't answering many questions these days on how they feel about the new Iran war. The ones who talk say that Kamala would have done the same thing.

B-b-but, isn't that why you voted for the peaceful never-war president??? Good God, I wonder what else he may have lied about!!!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The Republican political majority and much of the nationally elected DINO contingent fully backs the war. Maybe the people don't, but they'll continue to send up people who do to make decisions on their behalf.

enough dumb F**ks who would be brought back in line with a false flag attack

Or just an AI video overlaid with TikTok voice that claims there was an Iranian attack.

5 democrats voted against reining in this current attack. And 3 republicans voted for it. But sure, they're both the same 🙄

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago

Funny how there's always just enough Democrats crossing the aisle to gain the desired outcome but never more. It's almost as if the distinction between parties is political theater since neither side is ever allowed to be held accountable for not living up to their rhetoric.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago

5 democrats voted against reining in this current attack.

Just enough defections to guarantee the resolution fails. Cuellar is, incidentally, the highest ranking Dem on the House Appropriations Committee, a job Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries allows him to keep despite needing Trump's Presidential pardon to stay out of jail.

Vargas is, similarly, a steaming pile of shit who squats on one of the bluest districts in the country.

You can go down the list. These are all enabled by national leadership and state level corporate money. They're symptoms of a corrupt and diseased partisan system.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It is however historically proven that attacks on the civilian population not only don't demoralise the people but in fact allign the people much better with the state and the war goals than amy other means

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

“Put a boot in their ass, it’s the American way” etc. etc.

[–] _chris@lemmy.world 19 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

They are. But America is planning an attack that looks like Iran on the best state that makes them look bad.

The person you are replying to is suggesting a vindictive false flag event is being prepared. Classic conspiratorial banter.

But it’s 2026, so dismissing it as conspiratorial thinking/banter is possibly exactly what this admin wants. It’s a really fucked up time period.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 2 points 14 hours ago

Ah, thank you. I couldn't parse it at all before. This makes some degree of sense.

[–] silicon@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

Translation: False flag attack by the Trump Regime on California.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 7 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

There isn't anything worth attacking in most red states.

[–] Cargon@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 hours ago

Trump's palace?

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 7 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The best refinery targets would be the ones that handle domestic US oil production, and many of those are located in blue states as well.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Really

Not Alabama Oklahoma or Texas? Near the source of the oil

Smart cutting off the coasts so you don't look like a moron.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago (2 children)
[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 1 points 13 hours ago

Right, and doing that shows the large number of refineries in blue states, exactly as I said.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 0 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Why would you specifically zoom into the Midwest while arguing there aren't refineries on the coasts?

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago

I mentioned Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas...so I zoomed into those states. The other guy mentioned Alaska and blue states. All he did was call me names

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

You're telling me nobody is interested in attacking the largest ball of twine in America or the biggest rocking chair in the world?

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Most important military installations are in red states.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

You mean like the the largest concentration of deployed nuclear weapons in America and the largest strategic airbases and navy yards? Oh shit, those are all in blue states.

Where do you clowns get your ideas from?

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Where do you clowns get your ideas from?

Reality.

Most nuclear missile sites are in the Great Plains, which are mostly red states. Most military bases are in the south, all red states. But there are a bunch in CA, WA, and VA/DC/MD too.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 0 points 7 hours ago

Today appears to be the day that you learned about nuclear submarines and where they live

[–] Captainautism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 8 hours ago

“Death to America” does not mean death to red states.
