World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Calling Israelis animals and European settlers is repeating antisemitic tropes.
They're not calling Israelis, as a group, animals. They're calling these particular nazi douchebags animals (who happen to be the regime controlling the state of Israel at the moment).
what??? antisemitic tropes are literally the opposite of European settlers / colonialists, it's framing them as non-white outsiders undermining European societies.
European settlers are who made this a trope.
Whoever subscribes to "might makes right" ideology is a beast, and that's what's behind both Zionism and Western supremacy (which are basically the same thing). Also, they literally aren't Semitic, they're just Polish, Ukrainian, German, and other kinds of European who invaded the land and settled there. Semitic people exist, of course, they're the locals who have been targeted by Europeans for millennia.
Jews, including Ashkenazi, have Levantine DNA. Jews in Europe were not accepted as Polish, German, etc. That was the whole reason Zionism became a thing.
Antisemitism is a term coined specifically to be a more polite word for Jew hatred and Anti-Judaism. Semitic is a linguistic term, not an ethnic one.
How does that excuse being a genocidal appartheid state. Yes, european were antisemite. We know.
Animals sure, European settlers? No, that's historical fact.
Eh, it's dehumanizing but I wouldn't call it antisemitic.
That’s literally what a good majority of them are. European Jews…
I was referring to the animals bit.
you should definitely dehumanize settlers tho
FFS it’s the genocidal assholes who are animals in their statement. Stop finding problems where there are none.
Being human is immutable, no matter your religion or criminal record. The problem here is that you seem to think that some form of moral high ground gives you the power to deprive someone of their humanity, and frankly I find that disgusting. No one gets to decide who is human and who is not.
No, you're projecting. I don't think anything, I am explaining what the other person meant. Take it up with them.
Pardon, I had understood that you agreed with their position.
Cheers!
There weren’t accepted as Europeans in Europe. That’s the whole reason Zionism even started.
No doubt, but murdering and forcing people out of their homes isn't an appropriate way to deal with being persecuted. A religious document about some people millennia ago doesn't actually give you any entitlement to someone else's land. And from the very beginning, Zionism's goal was to exclude Arabs from the region, based on plain racist hatred. Just because they were victims of antisemitism in Europe does not mean they couldn't continue to perpetrate their own evils, and it's notable that the antisemite leaders of the time wholeheartedly supported the Zionist project, as do by and large their descendants in the fascist movements of today - because it gets the Jews out of Europe and kills Muslims, they think of it as two birds with one stone. The only long term solution anywhere is for everyone to have equal rights, and it is wrong for Europe and now the US to export their apartheid elsewhere.
Theodor Herzl‘s book Der Judenstaat paints a future where Jews and Arabs live together peacefully. He was kind of an influential Zionist.
Jews moving to Israel bought their land legally, often malaria infested swampland where nobody lived. The locals answered to this peaceful immigration of refugees with violence (Hebron massacre, Arab revolt, etc.).
As you correctly point out, Jews had nowhere else to go. Israel was the place where they could survive and have a future as a people.
They bought land "legally" from previous colonizers. British law shouldn't have been valid there in the first place
Land ownership was dealt with under the ottoman system.
Yes, the ottoman EMPIRE. Colonizers
Yes, to get rid of them. We shipped them to the middle east and they agreed. Israelis are just self-hating jews who agreed not to mix with white people and stay on the wrong side of the mediteranea. Internalised antisemitism
Also they have bought into the promise of being tolerated, sometimes even supported, as long as they participate in the oppression of ethnicities further down in the colonial and racist hierarchy.
