We have gone through this before, whether its women, gay folks, black people, native americans. Were the most acceptable minority to target right now, and its gonna get worse before it gets better. But knowing how we have made it before, we will prevail
Keep your chin up, they want you to feel hopeless
and to be honest, it was much worse in the US merely decades ago - people are alive now who remember a time when transitioning was much more unthinkable and trans oppression was much worse
compared to the rest of the world, the US is still a much better place to transition, and trans people here have far more rights now than in the 1970s, or even the 1990s
my advice in general to trans folks is to focus on improving your life - move to a safe state, update your documents, get access to care, etc. Protect your peace, take care of yourself, and be happy - live your life.
if the political situation is bothering you severely and you have the excess time, money, and energy to give - then engage in activism and help create the changes you want to see
If you can't afford that right now, then I don't think there is much value in dooming about the situation right now. Protecting your mental health is more important than spiraling.
We need to be practical about how we spend our energy, including our fear and anxiety - if the anxiety isn't helping motivate you to make necessary changes, then work on letting it go and replacing it with more useful feelings.
Well it's working. I feel very hopeless
Were here for you. Trans folks will pull through like everyone before us, all included 🩷🖤🩷
The 4th Circuit just ruled that states have a duty to ban gender affirming care to help people "accept their birth sex"
So I sincerely doubt it.
I honestly think this ends horribly for all of us..
There's just no way to get the general public jazzed up about our rights. We're too few and too "strange"
Listen, you gotta quit the doomscrolling and focus on your local community once you get an understanding of the news for the day/week. I thought the same way as you until I did that, constantly downing hate-click news stories does exactly what they aim to do: get your ad revenue and make you feel hopeless.
Most people dont give a fuck that trans people exist, and will step up to bat if someone they know is being discriminated against. I live in bumfuck nowhere-ville in the USA, and I know most of the folks in town would be upset if something happened to my gf and I because of our identities, were all people at the end of the day. Knowing your neighbors and being respectful goes a very long way, especially in the isolated world we live in these days.
Those in power think they can "solve the trans ""issue"". just like they tried to solve the black "issue" or the gay "issue", and we know how that went.
We will persist, we have existed since the idea of gender was constructed. Its a safer time than ever in modern human history to be trans, and the people who dont like that are using us being able to get the care we need to line their pockets and feed the war machine.
We will prevail, even if things get worse before they get better.
