The thing i dont understand about developers when they target pc is like its really simple math to target the median hardware to develop and optimise your game against. And yet every time they seem to make a game that only a top percentage of people can actually run then expect the game to be bought. If you’re not targeting the hardware everyone has then they wont buy your game.
There’s also this weird obsession with putting in graphics options that dont scale properly but also dont make the game look better so someone like digital foundry has to make a video on what a good compromise looks like instead of i dont know adding a console setting. UE5 games have an ultra preset that does quite literally nothing but be harder to run.
Your max settings need to be targeting the median hardware otherwise nobody will be playing. Especially if you’re selling a game that is spectacle heavy nobody is willingly running monster hunter on low settings. I see some games providing a steam deck setting which is great now just do a console setting.
At this point is either due to crunch time and not being able to optimize anything and do testing or theres a gentlemens agreement with GPU manufacturers life nvidia to purposefully make games more high spec than they need to be to sell more cards.
Imagine the horror of being able to play any video game with a 5 year old graphics card, who would buy the overpriced scalped GPUs now?!
Barring notable examples like STALKER 2 isn't this just now and has been for a while? I feel like I see so many people talking about their RTX 2000 series still being fine and I don't really see anyone futzing with ubermegaültragraphics anymore á la Crysis 1 back then, it seems to be mostly endless shaders for GTA IV and V.
