Not really bashing the collection of figures. It's good to have a hobby and building models is rewarding for some. Vidya games is something everyone loves. Consuming slop is what we all do, so no issues with the slop-center either. Just. The lights. Everything that isn't a toy is grey. The suspicious of a kitchen or bathroom in the supposed highlight of his home. Slop me up buttercup.

these are definitely some of the better ones too lol

there much worse ones

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

some of those spartan ones are people who were unhoused last month but go off king

When my wife and I first got into subsidized housing after being unhoused, we had two of those red folding camp chairs as our only furniture for several months. They were second-hand and they were given to us for free. As for the shitty depressing wall colours, I guarantee you that someone who can't afford furniture is not living in a place where they can afford to paint it, or are even allowed to (landlords fucking hate letting you paint things, and they always choose the most depressing colour to mass paint their units).

The reason I find this one post-worthy is because it's not just "sadboy home". He's made an effort, he's put money and time towards decorating the home, yet it's just soulless.
I remember being 20 and having my own place for the first time. It took a while for me to hang up some art, get plants, get a bed-thingy and so on. When I visit my nephew and he lives like that now, I don't blame him or anything. Nobody has ever taught him anything about making his home cozy, how is he supposed to know? There's a lot of stuff we don't teach people that we just expect them to pick up through osmosis, which only works if it's not seperated by gender-roles.

plants are such an unbelievable good vibes multiplier

I felt really proud when I got my cactus to flower. Now I'm trying to keep my basil bushes alive despite a massive aphid attack. I bought ladybugs online and half of them were dead on arrival :(

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Apparently even a single ladybug can devour shitloads of aphids, so don't despair

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I sadly ordered them in autumn right before a big drop in temperature seemingly got them all. So now I'm doing my best to keep the aphid population down until spring, when I will try again

There's a couple things you can do if you haven't already: Neem oil is stinky but an excellent insect repellent, and if you have plant-safe soap you can mix it with water plus chili oil or siracha and apply it to the stems like aphid pepper spray. Even the hot stuff alone with water can help

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

I've tried it all lol. I've even tried smoking out the aphids by putting the affected plants in an enclosed box with a lit cigar. Now I've just plants that smell like Dad. Weirdly enough I had an olive tree that was being destroyed by wooly aphids and then they finally just got rinsed off and that was it. No such luck with the regular aphids though.
I appreciate the advice though! I think the issue is basil is just too good of a habitat for aphids. Lots of nooks and crannies + It seems like the plant is perfect sustenance.

That's how my place looked when I was in the process of moving.

Oop spent a couple 10k to furnish the place. That's a choice.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

My room in my old apartment was a mattress on the ground for 3 solid weeks before I bothered to get a bed frame (old bedframe kind of broke in an irreparable way during the move)

There was something deeply visually funny to me about a completely furnished room with a wardrobe, lamp, turntable with speakers, vinyl collection, decor, etc completely in place, but then the bed is just a mattress w/ no sheets and a sleeping bag on top in lieu of a blanket w/ a tiny square cushion for a pillow, and also the mattress is in the middle of the room not touching any walls like Charlie Bucket's grandparents. So I kept it that way for the housewarming and for a week after that.

I've lived with all sorts of terrible situations and design choices because it was all I could afford. I've got a horrible leather couch right now because it was the only that fit in the corner of my room AND was free.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

It's a hot couch!
