I've been enjoying it for the most part. I think since it is about the academy, it has a lot of room to explore the themes of ST in some interesting ways. It reminds me a bit of Prodigy in some ways, trying to build on existing lore and build up the far-future Trek timeframe while solidly embracing the core principles. I'm curious to see where they take the current big bad arc (Paul Giamatti).
It does feel a lot like live action Prodigy sometimes (positive).
