Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online

And this is sort of the annoying part for me, if you want something that respects your privacy better than mainstream social media, you have to put up with way less people, posts, comments and communities. I really wish there was some major platform which was as big as the mainstream but was it’s own thing, I know mastodon is the biggest but it’s still not big enough meanwhile something like bluesky which came way after is even more popular than it
@Jasperthewolf@pawb.social It is what's upsetting about it at the moment, It's also what ActivityPub and The Fediverse is here to solve into the Future, the main issue is we need platforms to adopt it and grow alongside each other. It's one of the things I've been trying to do with creating banners and little digital adverts for the Fediverse.
Soon I hope to push into other sections that could help push people to move across, in the end people can't move unless they learn about it, The only way to learn about is to be educated by the people using it.
Yeah exactly, but the issue is how do we spread the word about it and get a lot more people on it? We’d need to have big celebrities get on it, the same strategies that MySpace, Twitter, and Discord used to grow their popularity when they first were growing. Also, where we would put these adverts? Most people use the same sort of social media nowadays, so it’s kinda redundant telling them on there, it’s like someone saying to move to twitter while posting on mastodon.
Yeah I get that, when it comes to Celebs I'm not sure how to solve that but I know I'm planning on making posters to plaster up and advertise the Fediverse as a whole. I'm also looking to sell these sorts of posters to people using the Fediverse so we can get more advertisement out there.
When it comes to digital advertisement it's a bit of posting on normal social media but also educating people through Videos, Comments and more. It's trying to show we are a great place for people to go and it's not as complex as people think.
That would be cool. I think it’s more that people don’t know about it, I only really found out once I started getting into the whole privacy and Linux niche, I think if they just had more funding for adverts they really could do something great.
@Jasperthewolf@pawb.social This is something that I hope to solve in the near future
I would really like to help the team with this, I think the fediverse just needs more structure and a shared vision.
@Jasperthewolf@pawb.social What do you feel you can help with? It's always great to think of how you can help the Fediverse grow :3 x
Mostly with outreach or suggesting features to make it better/easier to use for non techy people, I am very passionate about it and want to help spread the word if I can :3
@Jasperthewolf@pawb.social Would you like me to give you my banners I created to help advertise the Fediverse. They aren't the best but could help
Sure thing! Where do you usually post about it so I have some reference?
I do wish I could help more but I don’t really have much experience in coding or whatever, I’m just an average guy
