Phone makers need to understand that a missing headphone jack is a dealbreaker.

Tho it wouldn't be if companies would at least put two usb ports on the devices. I'd be fine using usb wired earbuds as long as I don't have to give my phone one of those dumb splitter tails.

is a dealbreaker.

*for you

I disagree. Cables are annoying, especially with something I have to wear on my head. My last headset broke after the cable kept getting tangled. And it wasn't made to be repairable.

Though a second USB port would be fantastic

Well good news, you can still do bluetooth on a phone that has a headphone jack.

And it wasnโ€™t made to be repairable.

And wireless earbuds are? How many earbud batteries crap out after less than a year? I really don't think jamming tiny lithium batteries into everything is the more sustainable option here.

Even though the reasons for ditching the headphone jack were specious I'd rather have a USB Type C port with video output capabilities

Yeah idgaf about headphones ports anymore, USB headphones have gotten me spoiled. But a second USB port would be awesome

I would say it's a pretty big annoyance but not a deal breaker to me. USB-C to 3.5 dongles are cheap and not that annoying if you get a flexible one

[โ€“] AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

I have two, they are flexible, and I find them obnoxious to have to use. I specifically chose my current phone because it has a headphone jack, and I won't make the mistake of missing that again.

The USB C charging ports on my phones tend to become unreliable over time. It's manageable for charging as you can not move the phone once it's plugged in, but listening to music on the go becomes impossible.

Yea, but it does not work right! And Google, won't fix the old bug where the sound stops and starts every damn time the audio lowers!

It only is for a very small segment

[โ€“] AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It makes no sense to say it's for a very small segment when we weren't given the choice in the first place.

[โ€“] sixty@sh.itjust.works -2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

.. what you're saying doesn't make any sense. If you were to ask all smart phone users about the jack, most people wouldn't care much, ergo: only a small segment cares.

That doesn't change just because of how the jack was phased out.

That's just how things evolve

People are still buying them.

If they're a "deal breaker" then phones would not be selling.

[โ€“] bastion@feddit.nl 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It's not a deal breaker, it's just a major pain in the ass, and my next phone will absofuckinglutely have a headphone jack.
