Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

I'm presenting a lot of assumptions here... I thought that that porn was mainly catering to women who wear burkas, so that they have a sexual outlet in their private time. Have I misunderstood who it's catering to? I actually don't know anything about the values of people who wear burkas. Surely it's different for everyone who wears one. Idk what makes the genre offensive because of that, plus I've seen very few videos and felt it's not for me. Do women not wear burkas at all during sex, and is it therefore disrespectful to use it as part of a kink outfit?

Edit: What I saw is actually called a hijab, not a burka. Idk if burkas go by the same rules but I found a site saying "When Can a Woman Take Off Her Hijab?"

Women may take off their hijab in a private setting where non-family men are not present. Shared spaces with other women or immediate family members, such as at home, are common places where hijabs are not required.

The hijab’s purpose is to maintain modesty in public or around strangers, not within private, safe environments.

It's just chauvinism, most of the actresses aren't even Muslim or ex-Muslim, Mia Khalifa was born a christian Lebanese woman, the target audience is 100% of the time racist white men having fantasies about taking an obedient tradwife mail bride from an arab country and "saving her". Or in the case of Europe a lot of times fantasies about immigrants and refugees from Muslim countries.

Do women not wear burkhas at all during sex

Muslims women only wear it outside of their home, there are no restrictions on doing it while wearing it.

Unfortunately no. Especially given how misogynistic, patriarchal and racist the porn industry is. It more of the racial fetishization that has been talked about in the past few EMPOC megas.

Pretty sure they wouldn't know anything outside of the common "backwards Islamic societies make women cover themselves to sexually repress them" sterotype. And its part of what makes it offensive. The other part is what la_tasalana was pointing out. It feels like that "sub-genre" of ethnic fetihisation rose up post 9/11 and during the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Considering the war crimes committed there included sexual abuse, well, you can draw some conclusions from there.

You mean the returning Middle Eastern men/women and their torturers all take home the sexual and racial trauma that shapes their sexualities. That's a lot to process out of their systems, possibly for generations.

In a better world where the bombing of the Middle East stopped decades ago, this would almost certainly still be true. Stereotypes and generational trauma(in this case, sexual) are often intertwined. In that way, I can see how kinks involving both persist.

This could be true but another example, as soon as the ukraine-russia conflict broke the top searches in pornhub were for shit like mail order russian and ukrainian brides exploitation type of shit and it was reported in north america. The hijab/burka phenomenon gained notoriety in white men circles as a way to "own" the arabs/muslims, since it was mostly produced by white men and many of the girls participating didn't even wear hijab/burka irl, just for the porn shoots afaik. The industry itself capitalizes on kinks that ofc are very well existent in poc communities due to racial and sexual trauma but it is very widespread and mostly made for white men is the issue and a lot of people don't like bringing it up to avoid sounding like some christian extremist who wants to ban all porn. But you did raise a valid point too.

Not for these guys no. Consider that this is the industry that thrives on racial stereotypes. Its western chauvinist attitudes that pokes and pokes and pokes to see what they can get away with. And since Muslim folks were the villains of the week they went for it knowing it would offend many of them around the world deliberately and play on fetishising them. Its 100% catering to these Yt dudes, thei fucked up gaze and they know what they're doing. This the same strand of guys on that Charlie Hebdo shit that pokes and pokes and pokes.

Why when I look up the term "western chauvinist" do propaganda by the Proud Boys show up on nearly every link? I'm not clicking on shit.

What is western chauvinsm?

What does YT stand for?
