What did I miss about Lรคderach?

[โ€“] Randelung@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Chocolatier Lรคderach wird fรผr seine homophoben und frauenfeindlichen Positionen bekannt

If you google around a bit they're apparently very fundamentalist religious people. The type we're currently criticizing in the US.

That's why some of the swiss call it "Fundi-Schoggi"

Come on! I just moved to Switzerland! I thought it was some wholesome swiss company. What else do I need to avoid?

[โ€“] Randelung@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nestlรฉ, UBS, Fifa, Glencore... Olten... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

[โ€“] SigmarStern@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Three of those are obvious. Just learned about Glencore. But why Olten? Afaik that's just a city?

So off topic, but what did Olten do? Help me integrate by dissing the right cities.

I don't know any reason tbh. There's a big train station there and most people only spend a few minutes in Olten. Hardly anyone goes to Olten.

Probably just a consequence of Kantรถnligeischt; people enjoy dissing neighboring villages, districts, or cantons for no reason.
People from Aargau are said to be bad drivers, people from Bern are said to be slow (as in time). Nobody understands people from Wallis when trying to speak German. There's the Rรถstigraben (Rรถsti trench) that culturally splits German and French parts of Switzerland and the Polentagraben (Polenta trench) for German and Italian parts.

So Olten is the Kassel of Switzerland. Got it. And living in Bern I've heard about the notion that they speak slowly. I cannot confirm. Tschugger without subtitles is impossible though. And Germans are so loud and often rude in a very particular way that I only noticed after I've moved here. Thanks for the insight!
