It's a fun take, and Lemmy is a bit of an echo chamber, so let me enlighten you all on how that would kind of go:

The MAGA crowd is a combination of idiocy, brain damage, and then dark tetrad people.

They don't care if their cult leader is hypocritical, they'll defend everything he says, even if it hurts their own interests; they'll cherry pick, gaslight, and deny basic facts.

When you see them from a point of clinical detachment, their behavior makes a kind of twisted sense. The mistake is the assumption that they're just like you, and can be reasoned with or moved using empathy. Their worldview is fundamentally different, and typically only changes via direct experience: "leopards ate my face". Sometimes not even then.

It's downright infuriating at times because it reminds me of that antisemitism quote:

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Forgive me for being the ackshully guy in the thread, but it’s dark triad. A tetrad is comprised of four

Edit: guess I should have dug deeper. I didn’t know some add sadism to make it a tetrad. Thanks for teaching me something.

But weird to wait just a couple days after his support significantly fractured to claim his support can never fracture...

I'll be glad when it does; the guy was elected twice.

I want to be wrong in this case

Very defeatist of you to suggest his base will always defend him, right after they appear to no longer be defending him

Only the most ardent propagandists are defending this killing. We have yet to see how it will play out, but you're telling us to give up already?

No. I won't give up as easily as you have. We will keep fighting

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They will absolutely defend him. There was a clip that went viral a few weeks back from a podcast where leftist children chat politics with their MAGA parents and the seriously MAGA-pilled father said (paraphrasing here) that he'd be okay with his son getting shot and killed because of Trump because Trump must've had a good reason to order whatever killed his son.

You can also go to the leopardsatemyface community where you regularly see Trump supporters get fucked by Trump only to have them say they'll still support Trump.

They're also justifying the murders of American citizens with the "just obey. If you agitate them and you get killed that's your fault".

I'm not saying give up. I'm saying some parts of MAGA (hard to say how much) are so lost in the sauce I don't know what Trump would have to do to get them to change their mind.

There will always be a percentage that will follow their cult leader. But as things get worse you do see more move away. If in the lepordsatemyface community you see people regretting their vote (only because it harmed them) and swearing to no longer support Trump

[–] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 1 points 1 week ago

With the beautiful propaganda machine and echo chambers they have built, those people moving away just come right back (and most never leave at all). Just look at the number of individuals on leopards ate my face the first time around, and note the numbers of trump voters in his three runs.

Oh, sweet summer child

Serious question, have you asked a Republican if they intend to keep voting Republican after these murders?
