Mandatory Note: Being prepared for shit to go down is different than advocating any sort of lone wolf action. Organize first and foremost. We may yet salvage something out of this debacle without an outright civil war or like burst of violence, though certainly not without brave folk on the streets physically resisting the fascists and making it impossible for them to quietly oppress the American people and make it the new 'normal'.

In either case, comrades are invaluable. Yes, even ones you might disagree with on matters other than "Holy fucking shit, the administration really dialed up the fascism"

The bullet is an option, and an option we must acknowledge and prepare for, but still an option of last resort.

Damn, now I finally know what to say to people who tell me to stop complaining.

"The soapbox is the first box of liberty"

I always understood the sentiment, but didn't have the words to communicate it.

SBJC.

That should be on t-shirts.

And be smart. The administration is using ICE as bait to declare in insurrection.

Ideally the goal of showing up armed to a protest is to prevent violence, not to cause it.

And also important for all of us to remember the "administration" is generally https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Enlightenment and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics with a fuckton of money and goals embedded there among other interests. The destabilization is the point, so unification is better, but everything you said is correct

so far it hasnt worked at all. he was going to enact it one way or another.

You can't resist the administration they might use it as an excuse to take your rights and murder people. Best to let them continue taking your rights and murdering people unopposed

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

You can't resist the administration alone, but can do it as part of armed civilian group counting millions of individuals.

Finally a sane take. Thank you

Everyone should be doing the following:

  • Arming the FUCK up. I don't care how you feel about firearms in the US, it finally is that time that we need to worry about resisting tyranny. Meet force with force. You probably will never actually need to use the thing, but if the administration, or the next one, knows that actually enforcing policy will become a door-to-door meat-grinder across the entire US, they won't risk the bloodbath. We need to preserve the standoff at all costs.

  • Saving money. Economics are still a thing. If they can't strangle you, they will starve you. Cut vices like drinking and drugs, stop spending money on new toys and games, start putting cash away.

  • Getting involved in your community. As one protestor said, nobody is coming. The republicans sure won't save us. The democrats won't save us, nobody is going to swoop in and enact justice. Only your neighbors will save you. Or your family. Or your friends. Whatever shape it takes, we need numbers united. We need communities to stand up together and help each other. Time to exercise social muscles you didn't know you had and actually talk to people.

  • Get healthy. It's finally time to start doing those things you've imagined doing like exercising and eating better even if it means spending more time meal-prepping your beans and rice and taking daily jogs in the freezing cold or doing pull-ups in your doorway or just stretching for an hour a day so you won't cramp up and fall in the street when you have to run to a neighbor's house.

  • Audit your social media presence. I know we can't give up internet identities entirely if we're organizing resistance, but you need to be aware that they are in fact really making databases. I don't think this current administration remotely has the balls or intellect to use that data for anything other than pointing and whining, but we have no idea how long this is going to last, and you might want to worry about how President Theil is going to use facial recognition and his drone-swarm to enforce his new order. (This is FAR from over after Trump is gone.) Take your pictures down, make sure you can't be physically located with your clues and status, take off location tracking, do what you can to separate your real life habits and life information from your social media.

To add on to your points on getting involved with community and managing online presence, here's an article that describes some of how the residents of Minneapolis have been organizing neighborhood watches to keep track of ICE's actions using Signal: https://crimethinc.com/2026/01/15/rapid-response-networks-in-the-twin-cities-a-guide-to-an-updated-model

Arming the FUCK up

Where does one begin with this?

Remember how we all used to scream and cry how gunshows and gun conventions seem to have very loose restrictions and a lack of background checks?

Welp, here we are.

Also, a great place to start depending on your state and access might be a site like Gunbroker, the setup is pretty simple and it's basically ebay but they don't mail guns, instead you have to go to a gun store in your area to pick up your purchase. I've used it before to sell firearms and had only great experiences.

Otherwise I'd start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state

Just to know what's actually allowed or not in your state.

If you do not have firearm experience, and your state has Concealed Carry Weapon provisions for civilians, I would actually recommend going for a permit, because it comes with classes and training in many cases, and they brush you up on the law in your area. I don't know if the attitude has changed since I had one, but generally local law-enforcement is very cool about CCW's because they show the owner has gone through training.
