Remember how we all used to scream and cry how gunshows and gun conventions seem to have very loose restrictions and a lack of background checks?
Welp, here we are.
Also, a great place to start depending on your state and access might be a site like Gunbroker, the setup is pretty simple and it's basically ebay but they don't mail guns, instead you have to go to a gun store in your area to pick up your purchase. I've used it before to sell firearms and had only great experiences.
Otherwise I'd start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state
Just to know what's actually allowed or not in your state.
If you do not have firearm experience, and your state has Concealed Carry Weapon provisions for civilians, I would actually recommend going for a permit, because it comes with classes and training in many cases, and they brush you up on the law in your area. I don't know if the attitude has changed since I had one, but generally local law-enforcement is very cool about CCW's because they show the owner has gone through training.
