First off, I gave up after two episodes.
For whatever reason, I haven't found this season as compelling. I really want to see more of the ghoul (Cooper?) and his pre war story. I enjoyed Maximus's story in the previous season, but didn't enjoy his bit in the second episode. The focus on Bud's buds didn't do it for me either.
Maybe I'll give the third episode a shot.
Just a warning, the episodes you're really looking for will be episodes 5 and 6 and soon enough the focus on Bud's buds will make more sense in context to the larger story and the connections to existing Fallout lore. So you've got two more episodes that might be kind of a slog for you (based on what you're looking for) before it really picks up in terms of what you're seeking.
That's a lot of hours. I'll give it another shot, but I'm taking it episode by episode.
