I left spotify behind
I never jumped on board with it. But people use it and it's news.
What service did you use instead? If none, you missed out on a majorly convenient service for the user.
I'm old, I like to own my music. I've never liked the idea of leasing music. I'm sure Spotify works wonderfully for some users, for me, Navidrome does everything I need of it.
Spotify was great for me back in 2016-2017. Now i just to cds i buy. It's a lot more for new cds, but nice
That's cool. I just wanted to point out that Spotify was absolutely amazing when it came, it practically killed music torrenting. That you never jumped on board with it made you miss out on a fantastic service is all I say!
I fucking hated spotify from the moment I first interacted with it, primarily due to the way the app worked, and its exploitative position as middleware.
Convenience be damned if it’s a net loss to society.
And wtf is up with that weird queueing mechanism when you're playing an album and want to add some songs to play after that album. You can't append things to your queue in a FIFO fashion
What was it that you hated? I remember both the program and the app when it came being quite useful, if not as polished as it is now of course
Not the person you asked the question to but, for me it was dogshit music selection. I dislike radio music, my forte of music is almost exclusivley EDM based. Spotifies selection for glitchstep/dubstep/chillstep was a joke when i was looking into it. Plus I heavily disliked their leaning into requiring an account to even listen.
It sets itself to autostart, and then hid the setting deep on a second screen. Opt-out plus malicious design, for one example, and the algorithm and pay structure for another.
I've always just had to type a songname into a box and have it 10 seconds later. So Spotify gave absolutely no advantage in access to music.
The only semi-relevant new thing Spotify had was music recommendations, but I never cared about that. I've never had trouble finding good music organically, nor even the need to listen to new songs all the time.
So yeah, for me, it never was more convenient than what I had before and I don't think I've missed anything.
How did you solve music on your phone without having to connect it to your computer and transfering it? :o
It's that much of a burden to transfer like 10-15GB of musics? Even the most lossless file type(the name escaped my mind) do you need more than 30gb? Honestly question I have like 1000 songs and I don't need more than that.
No, but I'm talking about convenience :) Spotify solved having to transfer new music between devices nicely.
Yeah. It's a different story for people who 'consume' music like they consume other digital media.
Those folks always need something new shoved in their face, and streaming services are their go-to.
I got around 400gB and almost none of it is lossless… I stream it using Nextcloud music.
400gb is how much hours of songs?
No idea. Between 60-80 days I’d wager.

I was joking. I didn't think "transferring music to phone" is any problem at all, because I simply had a folder set up to sync. But it seemed like you needed Spotify to be super convenient and no alternative to be possible, so I just joked and didn't say anything about my real setup.
Oh sorry 😅 text is difficult sometimes. I didn't need anything. I merely meant that before Spotify you had to do things like that. If you forgot then you didn't have your new music.
No, sync can be automatic. There's no way to forget.
Yes, absolutely. Look, you're missing my point. Before Spotify you had to download or rip your music to your computer and transfer it to your phone. If you forgot/didn't have time to do that, you were left without your new music.
With Spotify that disappeared. It was a major convenience to suddenly not having to bother getting new music in the first place and not having to synchronize folders in the second.
You never used Spotify. That's cool and it's great that you had a working solution going for you!
And you are missing my point.
Downloading the music and transferring it to your phone can work automatically, you don't have to do it yourself. The manual way is what most people know, including yourself. But I never did anything but press on a button, and suddenly a song was on my computer and on my phone. One button press.
That's exactly the same as what Spotify does.
