Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Six years after the US justice department launched an immediate criminal investigation of the video-recorded killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, deputy attorney general Todd Blanche confirmed on Sunday that the department is “not investigating” the fatal 7 January shooting of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in the same city.

The killing of Good, less than a mile from where Floyd was murdered in May 2020, was recorded on at least five phones, including one held by the ICE agent who shot her, Jonathan Ross.

Blanche, a former personal lawyer for Donald Trump before he won his second presidency, dismissed the need for any criminal investigation of Ross during an interview with Fox News. He suggested that the officer was cleared by the publicly available video evidence.

“Is the FBI conducting an investigation into that agent, into the shooting?” Blanche was asked, in response to criticism from Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz.

I keep saying this... All of us who said trump was an absolute shit show of a human and unfit for office, were absolutely far more correct than we even knew. No matter how bad you think he is, he's worse.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 25 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No, I fully expected all of this. That's why I held my nose and voted for Harris. Not one single thing he's done is surprising.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I expected a lot of this and worse. 3 more years of awful decisions remain though. That's why I say it's always worse than you think. Because it will always get worse, as long as he draws breath.

Same. He has a history going back decades even before he ran for office and before he was given that stupid game show that gave a lot of halfwits the idea he was Good At Bidness (and Being Good At Bidness == Good At Presidency, naturally).

He's always been a vainglorious evil piece of shit failson and evidence for him being quite racist goes back to the 70s.

I wish someone had given him a late night talk show instead of the presidency.

'Ya but harris had a funny laugh, apparently.'

'i had to protest the party somehow.'

'They were backed by the same warmongers'

I remember when Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton ran presidential campaigns utilizing that same mentality.

As it turns out, it was a losing strategy.

I remember when third party / non-voter people perpetually insisted since before I was born that any election now we'll "teach dems a lesson".

As it turns out, it was a losing strategy and it aided fascism, precisely as every thinking person knew would happen.

contrary to popular belief the numbers don't support you argument. Would-be Dem supporters went to Trump. Third-party voters OTOH owe you nothing. They aren't in your party, and I'd rather vote for who I want, and lose instead of voting for who I adamantly don't want and win. Since winning isn't my immediate end-goal, however, I'm highly unlikely to vote for a right-wing party candidate regardless.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Go ahead and keep going on "logic" and ignore easily predictable outcomes. That way, you can feel SO smug all the time. A moral perfect little angel, so much better than everyone else and DEFINITELY blameless.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

lol. thank you. I will. Maybe it will encourage you guys to come up with more of a winning strategy since you seem so disappointed about your candidates lack of support.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I will get with my friends at the DNC and change everything, post-haste! Despite barely even supporting any democrats at all, I definitely support literally all of them, ESPECIALLY the DNC.

And you can keep on handing your vote to conservatives while pretending a russian asset would be a good candidate in any context.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

ooh, accusing me of being a "russian asset." that's original, now that you know I don't see things your way. Let me make it simple. Your vote is the main declaration of your support. So, yes if you voted Democrat then you don't just "barely support" a candidate but instead you Acutely "support" them. The only way to be more supportive is to make large monetary donations

-Also by your logic my vote went to Republicans. By that same logic Do you think the Liberterian voters also support Trump or do you think the anti-government gun-nuts also owe the Democrats their support? Wait I know, by voting third party in 2020 I helped save democracy for Biden and the Democrats since they won. Good thing they solved all, er some, well none of the problems that led to trump getting into office.

...Did you just admit to being Jill Stein? Or are you saying you wrote in your own name?

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

you never answered my questions. I asked you first.

secondly, I voted for Claudia De La Cruz and prior to that I voted for Howie Hawkins
