I didn't do shit because I wasn't alive then. And clearly they're not gone, because here they are. But you may note that slavery is illegal now. Not enough but not nothing. If you want to doom keep it to yourself.

Reconstruction was never truly complete and allowed for a full range of "compromises". The attitude and feelings remained the same.

Quite sad that 175 years later and the arguments have changed very little.

To give some context to how little it's changed even in rhetoric. Confederate leaders were fear mongering about socialism.
