The surprising part is that people are still alarmed by this. I mean, come on. What were they expecting? Something halfway decent from the president of Venezuela? Maybe the FIFA peace prize winner and his henchmen were going to deliver a 305 page triumph over the corruption and greed that is our healthcare system? Set your expectations lower than what you expect and you will rarely be disappointed. In this case, the floor is standard and you'll break out even.

I mean this is a pretty easy task, how are they fucking it up so badly?! You look at countries with affordable effective health care, then copy their work. It's not like they've copyrighted their legislation. Hell most of them will probably help you implement what they've done and tell you all about the pain points if you ask nicely.

Countries with affordable health care tend to have heavy regulations and use taxes to help fund the system. MAGA would probably riot over "socialism" and "guvurnment overreach"

Nah that's incorrect, the American system costs the government more per capita than Australia's with significantly worse outcomes for end users.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, but it feels more expensive and requires the government behave competently (Republicans are ideologically opposed to functioning government) this results in it being his job as a Republican to not understand any of this

It's wild that this number of people, who are at best willfully ignorant and at worst wildly corrupt, have managed to congregate in the highest offices of one of the most powerful countries on the planet. It's difficult to believe that Hanlon's Razor might apply to this group of people given they seem so adamantly opposed to helping the people they apparently serve and represent and so driven to pursue the anguish of minorities. They are almost comically evil we need to resort to fantasy to describe them: dragons hording a pile of wealth; ghouls sucking the life out of everything around them; liches that wont fucking die already.
