I am physically fine (apartment A/C is holding up and I am free to work here all week and not in a fire area) but I'm really jumpy today. I dunno if its just because I am back at work too soon or if I have just lived through too many general disasters + my general climate anxiety. I keep thinking I'm missing something and wanting to check here and the other place and vic emergency. Maybe its just the lack of natural light from closed blinds. Going to put some ambient music on and try to focus....
I don't cope without natural light. Try one blind open and see if that helps.
Windows are west facing so not keen on that but did just go stand outside for a bit. I might set a timer for breaks
Obviously not practical for today, but consider non-blockout blinds or old-school sheer curtains? Their whiteness helps reflect some light/heat, but still let some sunlight in.
We’ve got 2 west-facing windows in our bedroom. We have one fully blocked out, and the other using just curtains and partially lowered to allow light in, without overwhelming the AC.
Weirdly birdsong kinda helps. This or brown noise/ocean sounds are also not bad.
There are blue light machines intended to mimic a summer sky but maybe you could get the same effect from a bright blue screen?
A hammock or a beanbag can also provide a calming even pressure. I haven’t tried a weighted blanket but might if there’s a cheap one.
I completely get the climate change anxiety too.
We’re now kinda in the find out stage of fucking around, and the first climate refugees are starting to arrive in Australia. Plus I do not handle heat well at the best of timesThanks - I have lovely reddish lights but am regretting that now. Have upped the computer screen brightness. I also have a great app called myNoise that does awesome selection of nature and coloured / ambient noise. I will check out your suggestions. Hope you and melbcat are faring ok.

I work with environmental stuffs and yeah, I've not been ok about it for a long time. I grew up with floods and cyclones and that was always exciting when i was young but now ...ooof. Hard to deal with the grief in summer, that's all.Climate
Natural disasters terrify me.Thankfully I have cooling now so we’re managing ok thanks! Melbcat is mad I won’t let her outside but she doesn’t know how good she has it
