Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).

Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

When the US inevitably turns towards Cuba, who thinks China will do anything?
China has done the math and realized that in the long run they just need to wait and america will fall on it's own. If we assume china wins and does comunism afterwards it is the correct choice. Passing up short term risk to protect their long term position. So in that way we don't expect them to do anything in responce to anything short of direct US agression.
I don’t think that’s their plan. And I don’t mean that as a negative against China.
But if it was their plan, I’m skeptical that a strategy that’s so cold hearted and devoid of solidarity would lead to communism.
Building communism is unfortunately not a question of who has the warmest heart or who sticks their neck out the furthest for others.
The culture you build and foster in your apparatus has very real affects on the people who take power and lead. If the prevailing attitude is a selfish cold pragmatism, how long until the rot sets in the party apparatus?
Socialism in one country is a pillar of Marxism leninism. You are conflating the relationship the CPC has with non Chinese people with how they are internally. The culture internally in China certainly does not feel like selfish cold pragmatism as an outsider who has spent time there. Everywhere I looked, people were warm, friendly and generous. Even the cops and military people I interacted with were very friendly.
And again, China has and continues to do a lot in solidarity for the world. They aren't trying to start ww3 though, which is a gamble as far as outside intervention goes
Until they have Taiwan again and probably even more of a collapse in Japan, it is quite dangerous for their #1 priority, their citizens, if they escalate with the US while surrounded by US bases
Socialism in One Country doesn't mean it's cool or desired to ignore the rest of the world. It's not that exporting ideology and support abroad is bad in all cases, or that it is inherently negative.
It is that the revolution needs to be build and nurtured at home, before such things can be done. It's about stabilizing the gains, so you don't lose everything. China has been growing steadily stronger for decades. They are the economic hegemon of the world. This is not the same situation that Stalin and Trotsky split over. Not at all.
Exporting the revolution doesn't work. The USSR tried their best, and look where it got them. They were also a super power.
You can't force socialism on people. It has to come from the inside. Any socialist influence from China in third world countries will be ammo for reactionaries and imperial powers to rile up the populace of said countries.
China had to go through their own revolution to solidify their ML government. Other countries will have to do the same.
Change will not come from above. Or outside.
If you really think China has ignored the world you aren't qualified to speak on this subject. No investigation, no right to speak
You have to be cold hearted to win a war. How many more people might have been saved if che didn't die in battle? If we look at the reverse how many people would we say increasing the risk of capitlaism winning again is worth?

Lots of people in this thread demanding China do something, not a lot of detail on what that something could be.
Leading BRICS in hastening de-dollarization and enacting harsher trade and export controls in response to blatant acts of aggression would be a start. Anything other than the usual strongly worded letter and the "expressions of concern" we've come to expect from them. Putting any kind of skin in the game and use their place in multilateral institutions would show some solidarity.
China reaffirming their "best trade buddies" position with the US after the invasion doesn't help for sure.

Do you think weaking ing the soviet position to eventually lose was a worthy trade for the USSR? I doubt it. However at the time would you have said Afghanistan was worth the risk of saving it? Probably right?
So if you can picture a better way to project force into the American sphere of influence with out risking the lives of all the children on earth you have a better tactical understanding than China does of their own capabilities
The difference is a strategy. Tech bro bullshit is based on belief that the magic of technology alone will justify any sacrifice now. This belief in China isn't based in magic, but a very planned strategy with concrete steps. And it doesn't justify any sacrifice now, just more than you may feel comfortable with.
The fault of tech bro longtermism isn't in thinking about long term effects, it's the magical thinking which is grounded in little to no material reality
