I see both of those issues as being in the same vein yeah. Even when I was a mod of a small community on Reddit, I would have to remove posts from the community but then could still continue the discussion on the actual post itself - as too could others who, having begun such a conversation, did not have to have it yanked out from under them. (Likewise anyone who had the URL could join in, even if they weren't there when it got "removed".)

Some of the more interesting conversations even would happen that way, and I now find it highly ironic that even Reddit allows for less abusive moderation practices than the incomplete software here - please be assured that I'm talking purely about the software level here, not the human element where most mods there (especially for larger subs) were dicks (and nowadays are reputedly mostly half-hearted bots). Of course, our own mods here are wonderful and entirely without any negative qualities, especially in this, < insert current community name here >.😜

Arguably the OPer does (or rather , should) not fully "own" the full threaded conversation, only their own part in it (or at least if mods should have the option to delete it all, offer the option to NOT do that too!?). Imho the Threadiverse software would be greatly improved by allowing an OPer (or a mod) to delete only the actual post, leaving the rest of the content (responses) intact.

Otherwise it limits engagement - why provide sources and in-depth analysis when it could all go away in a flash? Plus it irks me that even Reddit handles this much better than we do, even 2.5 years after Rexodus. Fuck spez, but I guess for now he wins this round.
