Whenever my trans friends hear about a cis person with ANY hobby they're always like "oh yeah they're gonna be coming out any day now".

What do only trans people have hobbies?

What are the hobbies your trans friends have said this of?

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 18 points 3 months ago (5 children)

Warhammer 40k, film photography, model planes, anything really

Honestly, anything can be a trans-coded hobby if you're willing to abstract "thing that people get really into for an extended period of time" to "autistic people are almost definitely the dominant voices in the spaces around this thing" to "autistic people are disproportionately way more likely to be trans" to "therefore, trans people must be a very significant part of the community around this thing" to "therefore, this is a trans-coded hobby". This doubly applies to any hobby that skews younger, where people are way more likely to be out; anything that involves creative expression with which one could vent the pain of existence or whatever; and anything that involves roleplaying/worldbuilding that would let one get fucky with gender roles in a safe space. More broadly this applies to anything that comes across as particularly "nerd shit for social outcasts" compared to other hobbies; for vintage film photography I'm willing to guess there's some element of "lost childhood" to it as well; and if a hobby already has a connotation of being trans-coded it could become a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Ultimately, though, it's very silly. I wouldn't assume anything about a person's gender based on what hobbies they're into.

40k and HOI4 are the only true (stereotypical) trans hobbies (that applied to me personally)

The local 40k scene for me has heavy divorced cis dad energy. MTG is where all the trans gamers are at least for my store

Damn maybe it’s time to get back into magic

Warhammer 40k

What is their preferred faction?

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (3 children)

That varies a bit.

Probably the most common is chaos space marines. I haven't met any trans Ork players though.

CSM I could see. I was just curious. I'm a Necron main, but I'm cishomo. I got in when it was just the mindless terminator aesthetic, but stuck around after the Egyptian style aesthetic revamp. I see all my overlords as very catty.
