Is it indie if the creators can be laid off? That's a head scratcher.
It wasn't the creators getting laid off. They were publishing it through Humble and Humble began liquidating its staff including all of the dev's contacts there.
The publisher is the one that liquidated without warning. I happened during the game's launch too, which means suddenly this indie developer has to find out what the hell is happening.
Think about it like having a trial coming up, and then the day of the trial you find out your lawyer is gone.
you can hire a few people and be a dick to them and still be independent of a publisher.
