I wish to make high quality animation. The machine is more than 15 years old. What are the upgrades required for making such a machine suitable for making high quality animation and for working on Godot ??

Blender hardware requirement changes after 5.0 if your rig has components older than that you need to replace them. it's not a hard requirement but otherwise troubleshooting issues get tough.

  • NVIDIA: GeForce 900 and newer, Quadro Tesla GPU architecture and newer, including RTX-based cards, with NVIDIA drivers.

  • AMD: GCN 4th gen and newer.

  • Intel: Kaby Lake architecture and newer. Always make sure to install the latest drivers from the graphics card manufacturer website

Other than that, having faster machine always helps but it really depends on what you're after. Game-ready character motion? film(realistic or stylized)? motion graphic type of animation? If you want animation with somulation their codebase are not so up to date to incorporate gpu speedup (at least for cloth).
