Forums are social media now

Lemmy is just a malagasi fish-basket hand-weaving forum for enthusiasts though.

Not yet rotten by algorithmic rot, I think as well. I see quite lovely comment sections and doesn't feel infested with bots.

Could be wrong though, if anyone has any insight please provide!

Tbh the fundamentally fragmented, federated model the fediverse uses as a core design element does seem like it’d be far harder to centralize and comprehensively corrupt.

Definitely agreed with that, which is why I like it so far but am just worried or hold back. Hope there is going to be more activity on the whole system.

I see it as a win-win. I only have to open the app for a bit while on the loo. I don't give a damn about hemorrhoids, this is my shitposting time!

Pre-sleep bedtime screentime is now reserved for Balatro (likely equally terrible to social media feed) or light reading (probably miles above those, but pales in comparison to paperback).

Kinda true! I usually switch Active/6h (default) to be somewhat up to date

Unrelated, my bedtime screentime is just some simple type YouTube video noises that aren't too interesting for me to view so I can fall asleep.

Not unrelated at all, I've been doing the same for my kids, playing rainfall or boat creaking for my kids on YouTube music to their boom ox via BT. They love it and fall asleep to it quick.
