the Black Mirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits" really showed how corporations would like to have us live. The character wakes up to ads, when he tried to close his eyes to get a little more rest the system starts screaming at him to open his eyes and stop blocking the ads.

Related, Futurama predicted ads in our dreams. I feel like that might be part of the reason that one tech CEO really wants brain implants to be a thing.
