MODERATORS

There hasn't been any new news since around May. But that hasn't stopped Imdb from churning out "articles" that are merely copy-and-pastes from many months old info like the article I posted.

i remember one time roderic day tried pointing this out on twitter that it was poor satire because of course americans are just going to identify with the fascists and got dogpiled for it

It's a frustrating outcome and a misreading of the audience to expect anything else but I'd argue that it proves that the movie is a perfect satire.

if the point of the satire is to criticize what you're satirizing but the audience largely doesnt actually see/agree with the criticism, can u really call it good satire?

You seem to be assuming that Verhoeven exclusively made the movie for an american audience, which I very much doubt is the case.

It's excellent satire for a certain audience. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to satirize fascism in a way that's effective for an Amerikkkan audience. I think it's hard to portray fascism in general without Amerikkkans missing the point. See also: the reaction many people had to The Zone of Interest.

Homelander is a great example of this too. It literally could not be more obvious, but people still love him

You're describing literally all satire

I missed this. I like roderic but I sent him a whole essay about how starship troopers (the movie) is a satire of both liberalism and fascism but he wouldn’t publish it because he said it was incomplete.
