Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Trump is a mentally declining egoist. I think this has the potential to be a masterful move by Mamdani. All he has to do is put on a bit of a show, and just stick to his affordability plans (an area Trump has been trying to hit lately) and maybeeee just maybe let Trump think it was his own idea, then bam.

If (big if I know) Trump echoes one of Mamdanis popular positions I bet TONS of right wingers would happily jump on board and the RNC wouldn't be able to close that pandoras box, at least on that particular policy. The biggest road block is whichever of Trumps aides are with him. When they leave him alone it doesn't seem to take much to convince him, like the 50 year mortgage story.

On the other hand, Mamdani is a brown Muslim socialist immigrant and Trump is an aspiring 21st century Hitler. Uh... I ain't holding my breath.

I'm confident mamdani will ask trump what his plan to address affordability is and if it is a media circus trump will just Joe Brandon himself by lying about the economy.

Trump will usually come out agreeing with the last person in the room to say something to him. He’s like a goldfish brain in that respect. So your advisor comment is very apt, will be interesting to see how this goes down.

I was thinking about why no one tried to do this with Trump before knowing that even last term all it took was schmoozing and compliments to get on his good side, then I realized the massive media blitz they used to try and stop Mamdani combined with his popularity and win is exactly what gave him such a unique and elevated platform from which to do it. Hilarious and very smart imo. Mamdani knows how to play the game for certain.

Mamdani’s natural talents are a big part of the equation, I agree. He’s just a great politician, and seems to have a good platform.

As for why Dems didn’t do this before, there are likely several reasons. Primarily, garbage leadership. They decided declaring Trump public enemy #1 and fundraising on fears of what he might do was the best approach. They made a lot of money doing this, but at what cost? Lost all branches of government. Historic losses in state seats. And worst of all, they manufactured consent for all of Trump’s worst authoritarian tendencies.

Republicans are evil, but Dems are god awful at politics. In that regard, I think Trump rightly recognizes that politicians like Mamdani are in fact the future of the Dem party, if it can survive to see the day.

The handful of MAGAs still left in my social feed jumped on releasing the epstein files as soon as Trump flipped. Shits hilarious. So yeah, I agree, trump's statements are these people's beliefs at the drop of a tweet
