I don't think any of these games are really game of the year but then again this was a pretty mid year.

Praying Death Stranding 2 takes it because, while not really an insane improvement over the original - I enjoyed it the most out of any of the six nominees and I think it would make the E33 and Silksong fans the angriest. Like Silksong is arguably only up there because 'Silksong announcement!!' meme at every announcement stream for the past 7 years

Totally agree. I’d give it to E33 because I haven’t played DS2, but these choices are laughable. I tried figuring out what game would be GOTY for me and I couldn’t find one. There were a lot of good games that released, but none I’d call superior to all others.
So maybe it wasn’t a mid year, but one that lacks those magical wowza releases.

There were a lot of good games that released, but none I’d call superior to all others.

That's my definition of 'mid' although I guess 'average' would be a better word for it.

E33 sold a lot and I think was a solid 3/5 turn-based game from a new developer but I don't think it was like 'a revival of the genre' like so many people have said it was. If I had to guess, this one will probably win given all the "smol team (don't count the outsourcing they did for animations/etc) of only 33 people", "rare adult story, no I've never played any modern JRPG because I don't like that kiddo anime bullshit", and "random soundcloud artist did all the music" discourse (although I will say the soundtrack is pretty banger and probably does deserve the Best Soundtrack award this year)

Silksong I think will probably win the Best Indie but I don't think it is anywhere near GOTY and is only really nominated I think because of memes.

Hades II I think is in a similar spot to Silksong. Really anticipated sequel, isn't necessarily the greatest game to come out this year in sales or critical acclaim but was thrown a nom because of how popular it is.

Bananza is your standard Nintendo first party game nom. Usually it is a Zelda or Mario but shrug-outta-hecks Probably would have been Metroid Prime 4 if they had released it in time.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II sold a ton of copies.

DS2 I do think isn't much different than 1 and definitely only really got a nomination because Kojima and it was hyped, but I think it is probably the most polished game out of them all.

Ye average does fit more than mid.

I haven’t played E33 enough yet for a verdict, but I think it’ll win GOTY. I really like the real time mechanics which is probably why I like it despite generally not liking turn based games. But it will get the most sympathy points because of its development history.

I’ve only played the OG Hollow Knight and hated it, Silksong doesn’t seem to be too different tho, so I have no intention on playing it. Probably also +500 sympathy points for the dev history.

Agree on Hades 2 with the popularity thing (again, only played 1 and didn’t like it).

Bonkey Dong is the weirdest nomination tho. Like why not the new Mario Kart?

And KCD2 has to be the worst game released this year and one of those has to get the GOTY nomination.
