What is steam os? Is it like a desktop operating system or is it only for games? Because if you can do desktop stuff on this like web browse I'd say neat and this is worth like 500-600 normal range for a desktop budget gaming pc?
Steam OS is a custom linux distribution based on Arch - it does include a desktop and you can install anything on it, so it would be a solid option for a desktop PC
Oh neat, hmm might actually consider this then when wanting a new PC
Keep in mind that so far, Valve has never released a version of SteamOS for public use. The closest thing you can get right now is a Linux distro called Bazzite, which to be fair is excellent.
Valve released SteamOS for public use months ago, I've got a little pc running it in my living room. They only have AMD support, but it was easy to set up and is working fine
Yeah it's full blown Linux. You get an actual PC, like even the Steam Deck is a complete PC inside. The only difference is it boots into 'gaming mode' which is Steam Big Picture with a couple of background processes turned off.
So,it means you're not locked into anything like a console. You can play games from other launchers, emulators, and use it as a regular computer.
