If that was the first time he had seriously let me down in all our years as friends I would probably agree with you, unfortunately it wasn't. It was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak.
The fact is I had allowed his bullshit to pass in the past. So, yeah, I was partly to blame. And if it was just me he'd fucked over I'd probably have forgiven him again. But this time the wife had put in loads of effort to try to help him, and half the money we lost was hers. I'd just had enough.
I will say that he wasn't malicious in his actions. Cowardly, probably. Who knows.
I think he would've come with us on holiday if he hadn't got a more exciting offer. That's it.
No cunning or evilness. Just a better opportunity arose and he took it without thinking about others.
That guy was a leech. Good riddance!
