Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Ordinarily, I avoid straying into the American domestic situation, but the government shutdown appears to be continuing into increasingly harmful territory. If the situation is not resolved, soon tens of millions of Americans will lose food assistance, and already millions of federal employees are furloughed or are working without pay. To those not in the know, this situation has essentially stemmed from the Democrats refusing to sign off on the Republicans' plan to substantially shrink Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, which would eventually result in tens of millions losing healthcare coverage and tens if not hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths.

To be clear, though, the Democrats have not exactly been paragons of healthcare: they not only oppose plans to make affordable healthcare a right (in defiance of wide popular opinion), but also do their part to maximize suffering. Biden's policies during the pandemic ensured at least one million people died, and millions of children lost public healthcare coverage. We may never know the true toll, as the US decided that simply ceasing to report on a problem means that the problem no longer exists.

In other news, over the last couple weeks, the US has expanded their hostility against Venezuela by also including Colombia in their ire, and particularly the left-leaning leader, Petro. Both countries are now experiencing major economic and covert pressure by the US to try and cause regime change. The US has deployed an aircraft carrier to the waters near Venezuela and is conducting a military training operation with Trinidad and Tobago, which Venezuela has warned may be the prelude to the long-awaited attack.

Additionally, the US is attempting to combat Chinese geopolitical interest in central America and the Caribbean by carrying out digital attacks and launching pressure campaigns against Chinese and pro-Chinese countries and organizations. Given China's enormous economic weight, if central America were to break all ties with China, it would be a catastrophe for them; such decisions would only be made by outright compradors, and the resulting economic problems would make their reigns unpopular and, hopefully, brief.

The Zionist Entity's Genocide of Palestine

If you have evidence of Zionist crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against the temporary Zionist entity. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

María Corina rejects mediation by Lula da Silva and Gustavo Petro. Hidden somewhere within Venezuelan territory, the opposition leader once again defended US military actions in the region.

“It is unacceptable, and definitely unacceptable if it comes from a leader who claims to be democratic,” María Corina emphasized, accusing the governments of Brazil and Colombia of giving Maduro time to “carry out one of the worst escalations of violence in the country” in the last 15 months. “Maduro must understand that, for his own good, his best option is to facilitate a peaceful transition. The starting point is Maduro's departure.”

“We won the election, and not just the last one. They attack us, repress us, arrest us. We had 17 attempts at dialogue, and Maduro always violated his commitments. It was Maduro who started the war,” says María Corina, for whom the Venezuelan dictator is the head of “a narco-terrorist structure.”

“They question the invasion by the US, but no one talks about the Russians, Iranians, Chinese, and Cubans who are operating within our country. The invasion already exists, and we ask for President Trump's support to end this war started by Maduro,” emphasized the opposition leader.

For María Corina, it is too late to talk about dialogue. Lula and Petro's actions were poorly received by María Corina and her allies, who sees them as an obstacle to pushing forward an offensive that has been going on for almost two months and has resulted in the explosion of 11 vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific. María Corina says it would be unacceptable for Brazil and Colombia to use “lies” to convince the United States and Trump to stop the attacks and a possible invasion.

In parallel with the US military movement, María Corina and her collaborators are organizing meetings with allies outside Venezuela. The opposition leader assured, through a video, that Venezuela offers, over a period of 15 years, a wealth estimated by her at US$ 1.7 trillion if she becomes president of the country.

the open comprador attitude is mind-blowing

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I guess they realize they don’t need to hide it. Israhell genocided nearly a million gazans and still does, and honestly in comparison to nazi germany there is barely any consequences.

i'd be curious to see if they say similar things in spanish. most of this stuff is always in english because they're communicating with their actual base, wealthy/formerly wealthy venezuelans who can speak relatively good english and are implicitly being promised a part of this pie if they manage to take down the PSUV. however if most poorer venezuelans cant speak much english (which is usually the case in global south countries), you could put out propaganda in spanish targeted towards the poor to try and diminish their support for Maduro's government

@Redcuban1959@hexbear.net do you know if corina and her orgs act similarly in spanish language interviews as they do in english language ones?

[–] ColombianLenin@hexbear.net 25 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Absolutely yes. Thing is, this comprador attitude puts off the middle clases, which they need to succeed in regime change.

[–] Marxism_Sympathizer@hexbear.net 19 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

seems like a complete fumble then lol

[–] jack@hexbear.net 13 points 4 weeks ago

Well she doesn't exactly have a successful track record, so no surprise

The middle class is 100% made up of gusanos.

At this point I feel like most Western governments would feel justified in drone-striking her if she was in their country, talking like that, actively courting invasion by a foreign power. Harden your heart oh Maduro maduro-katana-1 maduro-katana-2
