Welcome to c/disabled, an anticapitalist community for disabled people/people with disability(s).

What is disability justice? Disability justice is a framework of activism which centers disabled people of multiple intersections. Before participating in in this community, please read the Ten Principles of Disability Justice.

Do I count as disabled/a person with disability(s)? "Disability" is an umbrella term which encompasses physical disabilities, emotional/psychiatric disabilities, neurodivergence, intellectual/developmental disabilities, sensory disabilities, invisible disabilities, and more. You do not have to have an official diagnosis to consider yourself disabled.

Follow the Rules:

  1. This comm is open to everyone. However, the megathread is only open to people who self-identify as disabled/a person with disability(s). We center the experiences of disabled people here, and if you are abled we ask that you please respect that.
  2. Follow the principles of disability justice, as outlined in the link above.
  3. Zero tolerance for ableism. That includes lateral ableism. Ableism will result in a ban.
  4. No COVID minimization.
  5. Do not offer unsoliticed health advice. We do not want to hear about the wonders of exercise or meditation, thank you very much. Additionally, do not moralize health or "healthy choices".
  6. If posting an image, please write an image description for our blind/low vision comrades. (If doing this is inaccessible to you, DM one of the mods and we will help.)
  7. Please CW and spoiler tag discussions of ableism.
  8. When it comes to identify-first vs person-first language, respect the language that people choose for themselves. If someone wants to be referred to as a disabled person, respect that. If someone wants to be referred to as a person with a disability, respect that.
  9. Try to avoid using ableist language. It is always good to be mindful of the way language has been used to oppress and harm people.
  10. Follow the Hexbear Code of Conduct.

Let's kick back and have fun!

As always, we ask that in order to participate in the weekly megathread, one self-identifies as some form of disabled, which is broadly defined in the community sidebar:

"Disability" is an umbrella term which encompasses physical disabilities, emotional/psychiatric disabilities, neurodivergence, intellectual/developmental disabilities, sensory disabilities, invisible disabilities, and more. You do not have to have an official diagnosis to consider yourself disabled.

Mask up, love one another, and stay alive for one more week.

That's the thing, he told me plain and simple that no matter what I do, this will come back once I'm stressed again, so it'll be a constant companion from now on. That isn't his fault, but he gave me enough stuff to take care of it so i don't lose any more hair over it lol. But reducing the stress level will probably only come about once I have a job and get rid of my chronic diseases, as they are the main facilitators of the skin condition.

Tbh I think it's just a matter of deciding to give a shit. He was completely stressed out too and he still made the time to chat with me about what stresses me out. I think he just got up and decided not to be a prick to his patients, which is rare.

Half of my doctor visits are ones where I'm treated completely kindly. It's not that rare for me. (Hmm, this makes me think there's people in similar conditions as me who are treated much better by their doctors.) If your primary doctor treats you poorly, maybe you could try switching to a new one. Y'know, since they're the ones who can take up a lot of your doctor visits.

Congrats on not having a worse diagnosis. Compared to some other things I love that you're much more okay! I really hope you can get rid of at least one or more chronic issues, and can make them all at least a little better.

In the meanwhile, please give yourself grace and decent rest. I have stress issues too and 10 seconds more of self-compassion each day is progress. I try to remember: Doing my best looks different each day.

My primary doc is really nice, but I rarely need to see them as my chronic conditions always need a specialist (diabetes as well as celiac's disease). My endo is pretty decent and competent, however, she is legally forced to ask me certain things that I don't want (a pump and CGM), but that's hardly her fault. My other permanent doctors are either competent or competent and nice, and at this point I'd rather have a competent doctor than a nice one. I'm just always happy when I meet a new doc and they're nice on top of everything else.

My chronic issues will never go away, so there's that. But the unemployment could be fixed eventually. I will resign myself to unemployment for the foreseeable future tho. And I'm taking a lot of rest (and light exercise) but what can I say, it's stressful being alive these days, so no matter how chill I am, I can hardly relax properly.

Thank you for your kind words sweetie, I appreciate it meow-hug

Sorry to hear that. meow-hug

The human body is awful, giving us extra problems when we already have problems instead of making things easier.

Thank you sweetie. I honestly think it's just another way of the body saying "I've had enough, please take a break." And you know, I actually agree for once.

Unfortunately the system humans have created doesn't allow anyone to take a real break.
