It looks like absolute shit.
Hot take: Games this old should not be remastered, it doesn't go well. If you want to play a piece of gaming history, you should experience it as it was, graphics and all.
Once this shit comes out, the biggest impact it will have is to muddy the waters as to what someone means when they say they played Deus Ex. Did they play the original and presumably had to jump through some hoops to get it running, or did they play this abomination that is probably tons worse and obviously tons less optimized? Who knows.
I think this is more a really bad remastering than proof that remastering an old game can't work, though "remaster" has always seemed like kind of a fuzzy category to me anyway, this case especially (it looks like an atrocious remake to me).
I greatly enjoyed the System Shock (1) remake. All the atmosphere and none of the 90s jank.
Tbh, THe original System Shock is barely a fps game, it's like a weird first person point and clicker
The Dark Forces remaster a few years ago was good.
There's a remaster mod that is quite good. It definitely can be done.
Yeah, but the publisher can trick people into buying this instead of the original at a fraction of the cost, that's gotta count for something
in a lot of the cases they just de-list the original so you're forced to buy the remaster actually
Yeah, they usually do that, but at least for now the original Deus Ex is still for sale on Steam and GOG.

You should experience it as the community around the game experiences it, which means lots and lots of mods.
