2025 is 3 months from finished. Which, thank goodness, they decided was not a timeframe that would allow for whatever software and database changes are needed to achieve this without catastrophic stupidity.

And the issue of public awareness of the changes, how it will, when you need to submit whatever else for whatever reasons - I'm sure they're going to have some publications sent out and ads everywhere to smoothen the transition.

I'm sure musk could have rewritten it all though /s

2026 you will file manually. For 2025.

2027 you can just wait for that sweet rebate cheque.

This policy was announced in 2020, money was committed in 2023, and is currently listed in the CRA website as an invitation-only pilot program.

I agree with the specifics of your statement: three months isn't enough time for CRA to spin up a new program. Seven years is entirely too long to implement an announced policy.

Maybe it's a good idea to make sure the kinks are all worked out before public rollout?

They might have actually learned from this:

Like I say, I agree that rolling it out when it's ready makes sense. If that's 2027, so be it.

Taking seven years to implement an administrative process seems entirely too long.

I’m also thinking about the massive CRA data breach for electronic filers - it’s not a decade since that happened.

What changes? They already know how much tax I've paid and what I am supposed to owe.

Credits, deductions, other incomes, etc.

They know what you made as reported.

They don't necessarily know what you may claim that would significantly alter the results for deductions, rebates, credits, forwarding amounts, etc: whether you are filing with a new common law partner, got a divorce/separated, foreign investments, dependents, unreported income (tips, self employment), in prison, etc.

There are literally hundreds of possible variables that can affect the amount owing or refunded.

Yes, they would probably have something that says if your situation hasn't changed then do nothing.

But, lives change, and that can have a drastic impact on your tax/financial situation.
