As I understand it Mullen doesn't wish he was Chinese, he just thinks it's funny to talk in a fake Chinese accent to the delight of an overweight Greek man
It’s half and half, iirc towards the end of the podcast, the Chinese accents were combined with a partially ironic/partially sincere appreciation for China. I think he was learning mandarin at one point
I fully believe he was learning Mandarin entirely to get practice with actual Chinese language tones so he could speak fake Chinese better
tonally and gramatically correct gay chinese actor michael douglas

Nah he talks semi-unironically about it being the Chinese century and that the west has no chance and they are on a different level. Plus he really, really liked the Chinese family he lived with

Hilarious that his uncle snitched on him because he was explaining ISIS in detail to him. Just reading the Wikipedia page on ISIS is enough to get the FBI called on you i guess
