Eh, that's why I plan to make a Lemmy community centered around basically food/water/energy self-sufficiency, to cockblock exploitation like this.
Once I rehabilitate myself first, and adopt that lifestyle myself fully.
Pretty much exactly the opposite of the way out of it but I wish you luck.
So long as you NEED other's services, you are exploitable. They can blackmail you to do downright immoral things, just to survive.
Now imagine trying to shut off the electricity of someone who has solar panels, or starve someone who has their own food. You have say, 500.000 people who need a lot less money, and have a lot more time on their hands, who using violence and cohersion against, would be ineffective, and you have a problem.
