The suspect is still at large - officials earlier said they found a high-powered rifle in woods near where Kirk was shot.

Also, "high powered rifle" essentially means "not a 22".

A week from now it won't matter that the reporting was wrong because it's already fact in the minds of their audience.

"A lie travels half way around the world while the truth is still putting on its pants."

lol I think it’s “boots”

Why did the truth have their pants down

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago

The truth is naked most of the time. Only puts pants on for pressers because American's are too prudish to handle the naked truth.

[–] mimic_kry@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Idk do you always wear pants? Cuz I never wear em if I have the choice

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Much harder for me to conceal carry without pants.

I just use my prison wallet

Wait are we talking about rifles

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

RPGs actually.

Realistically, the minds of the audience were made up before the reporting. ;) The reporting just confirms what they already "know".

Looks like the "engraved cartridges" story is coming from the Wall Street Journal. So, Murdoch.

Investigators found ammunition engraved with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, according to an internal law-enforcement bulletin and a person familiar with the investigation.

Without the actual text, for all we know, it says "we all have rights". I would be entirely unsurprised if a right-wing agency head decides that it warrants looking into left-leaning individuals, then someone leaks it to the press to start the dissemination of that narrative that it was proved to be a left-wing shooter before anyone actually caught him.

[–] Master@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Without seeing it for all we know it says Remington.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I know it has since come to light that he was alt-right, but anything written on evidence would likely be to throw off the investigation if one was smart. Print an AI manifesto of everything you're against to throw off the scent to buy time. If I were ever to do such a thing, mine would all say "LOL!" Or "boner" or something. But that's just cause I'm juvenile, not psychotic, and thus would never really do such a thing in the first place.

The authorities are very good at exploiting this. If you ask the average British person about the police shooting of Jean Charles De Menzies they will say that he ran from the police and jumped over a ticket barrier before being shot because that is the lie the police initially leaked to the press and was reported on the front pages the next day.

The truth is he calmly walked through the station, paid his fare, picked up a free newspaper and then boarded a train before being restrained by an officer and then shot seven times in the head.
