IIRC NZ First was the first party in NZ to hire conservative thinktanks from overseas. This is their consultants calling the shots.

Splitting the vote doesn't really help if both parties are easily over the threshold.

Splitting the vote between Act and National? I don't see how this changes anything, since neither of them would ever coalition with Labour.

Splitting some into NZF might, but I don't know that I like Winnie the king maker.

Yeah, no effect for NAct... only for NZF.

Same as the green/labour split is irrelevant.

Unfortunately NZF, when in parliament, are king makers. What I meant was that one should not forbid forming a coalition with the king maker, unless one wants to lose.
