Has the statute of limitations passed on complaining about the entire premise of the Mission Impossible movie series?

The original TV show was about a team of people working as a group to complete the mission, and I'm pretty sure it was essentially the same group each week. The movies (at least the few I've seen) are mostly about Tom Cruise completing the mission with some hangers-on.

I may have only seen the first one though. If I've seen any more, I've forgotten them.

Apparently the show started out with them selecting different people for the missions, hence them going through files at the beginning to select agents. Eventually it just became the same team.

But as for the movies, yeah Cruise does all the fancy heroic crazy stuff in the field, but it still leans pretty heavily on Pegg and Rhames to get him to that point and providing Intel/gear... sometimes a long side him.

If I remember correctly, they thought they would rotate the cast a bit more, but in the end they ended up with a regular cast. Ironically, it was the leader who got switched out after the first season!

I'm way too young to have watched it but I did read the IMDb trivia!

Which apparently the first movie apparently pissed off fans of the show when it made Phelps the traitor

The first film used the TV series' premise to good effect. It uses the TV status quo as a starting point - Cruise wasn't an especially important member of his team. Then we watch the rest die one by one and Cruise is left panicked and on the run. He was never supposed to be a lone wolf and that was the point.

As the films progressed he became more and more a James Bond style superspy, of course, but that first entry will always be the best.

The last movie just seemed to drag on way too long. Like they could've easily cut 20+ minutes off the runtime if the movie wasn't busy fellating itself.

Ving Rhames has been on the team since the first movie. Simon Pegg has been there since the third movie.

Has the statute of limitations passed

I hope not. I saw single film and it was fucking grimy.

They are selling a blockbuster franchise and thus do not wish to offend anyone… so they invent a whole new breed of terrorists… atheist terrorists. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

It’s pure schlock for those that bring a foam finger to the movies.

so they invent a whole new breed of terrorists

Gotta give some form of kudos to them not going with whatever the current flavor of enemy/terrorist is...even though in the last movie the Russians were an ancillary enemy.
